Walter J. Hood
Walter J. Hood is a landscape architect and educator. He is Chair and Professor of Landscape Architecture & Environmental Planning and Urban Design at the UC Berkeley College of Environmental Design, as well as the creative director and founder of Hood Design Studio in Oakland, CA. Hood holds a distinguished MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, a dual MLA and MArch degree from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BLA from North Carolina A&T State University.
He has been the recipient of various accolades: the Academy of Arts and Letters Architecture Award (2017), Knight Public Spaces Fellowship (2019), MacArthur Fellowship (2019), Dorothy and Lillian Gish Prize (2019), and the Architectural League’s President’s Medal (2021).
