Light and illumination in Islamic Architecture - Publications
In this collection, you will find a great deal of information about how architects and designers pay attention to light in their work. Light not only reveals decoration and ornament but if skillfully manipulated, is also an important decorative element in its own right, one that has rich significance in Islamic theology and culture.

Those new to the study of Islamic art and architecture may want to start with  Lecture 6: Decoration, Ornament, and Light, from the collection of introductory presentations developed by ArCHIAM for the Aga Khan Trust for Culture Education Programme.

Articles in this collection touch on a range of topics, technical, scientific, aesthetic, and philosophical.  Most material is in English, but there are some articles in Arabic and French.

We hope you enjoy reading them!
