Rani-ki-Mahall
Allahabad, India

The Rani ka Mahal is the baradari, or pavilion, that forms part of the royal residential quarters of the Fort of Allahabad, which is located at the confluence of the River Jumna and River Ganges. The palace fortress of Allahabad, built between 1583-1584, was the largest built by Emperor Akbar. Unfortunately, much has been demolished and apart from the Rani ki Mahal, very little survives that is of architectural value.

Rani ka Mahal means 'Place of the Ladies,' but evidence suggest that it may have also served as the audience hall for the Emperor known as the Khilwatgah-i Khass. Designed on a trabeate system, the pillars are arranged in pairs except at the corners of the building where they are grouped in fours. The terrace roof has a perforated parapet and displays screened kiosks.
