After the collapse of the CIAM movement, Kisho Kurokawa predicted “shift from the age of machines to the age of life” in 1959, prompting him to explore ideas that, by 1960, became known as the Metabolism movement. He consistently challenged himself to create and study architecture and cities of the age of life. The ideas Kisho Kurokawa championed, Metabolism, Symbiosis, Recycling, Ecology, Ecosystems, and Information, have since become globally relevant.
Kisho Kurokawa published many philosophical works, most notably Philosophy of Symbiosis, which is known worldwide and has been translated into English and German.
Revolution of the City was published as his 100th literary work in 2006 by Chuokoronsha Press.
