In the historic medina of Tunis, the two-storey building organised around an open courtyard originally housed a Catholic boys’ school before becoming the Danish Consulate; it was later used again as a school, and then as temporary housing before being abandoned in the 1990s.&nbsp;The current project is the renovation and re-use of the building as a district office for the Municipality of Tunis.&nbsp;Following detailed survey and analysis of the badly deteriorated building, the rehabilitation works included excavation and consolidation of the piers and columns that support the ground floor cross-vaults and consolidation of the load-bearing rubble walls; the timber structural members were also consolidated and, where necessary, repaired.&nbsp; Source: Aga Khan Trust for Culture
