1959-62 Survey Located approximately 100 m west from the southwest corner of the outer walls of Tughluqābād Fort. Grid ref. I-13In this graveyard, there is currently part of a wall mosque remaining (its three miḥrābs), and just one tomb. Nearby there are traces of a number of graveyards. 1959-62 Survey Located approximately 300 m south from the southern tip of Mihrawlī village, to the east of the road leading south. Grid ref. F-13This area thought to be a graveyard is built on a high plinth; on the west side, there is a small wall mosque with three miḥrābs.To the south of the wall mosque, there is a domed gate with a square plan; it has entrances on four sides, with steps on the west. ASI categorizes this gate into the Mughal period, but its style points to Period II. There is also a west-facing rectangular building to the east of the graveyard, which may have been built during the same period and bear some connection with the graveyard. Period II.IOC: IX-33; c.f. Syria

Souk al-Hibal, an early Islamic structure in which some sections could be dated from the 12th or the 13th centuries, is composed of 57 shops and is connected to the eastern section of the Souk al-Khaish and the Souk al-Hour. Most of the vaults are from the beginning of the Ottoman period, and the western section has been rebuilt at the beginning of the 20th century. Some sections have been covered by vaults in the 1980’s. Through the Souk al-Haddadeen, and along the Great Mosque to which the souk is adjacent, most of the customers or tenants of shops used this section of the Souk al-Hibal, as the main access to al-Mdineh (Central Souk). Most of the merchants used to sell ropes.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Documentation, damage assessment and studies were performed by in house-local staff of AKTC at the end of 2021. Project implementation with a length of 83 meters including 57 shops was undertaken from November 2021 to September 2022.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;A successful participative process, key to the long-term sustainability of the project involved local authorities, represented by the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums, the Directorate of the Old City, as the Committee of the souk, representing shop owners and tenants, permanently associated throughout the project. To be noted is the close coordination with the restoration of the Great Mosque, as the rear wall of the northern shops is the southern or Qibla wall of the prayer hall of the mosque.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Pakistan

Lahore, the capital of the province of Punjab, and the second most populous city in Pakistan, is also known as the “Gardens of the Mughals” or “City of Gardens” due to its Mughal heritage when it served as a vital part of the Mughal Empire (1524 to 1752). This once fortified city has a concentration of monuments and buildings that reflect cultural diversity in architecture, and despite a dynamic and tumultuous past spanning several centuries, has retained much of its historic urban form. The Walled City of Lahore is famous for several historic monuments, including the Lahore Fort – a World Heritage site – as well as the Badshahi and Wazir Khan Mosques. Close to 2,000 buildings within the Walled City display a range of architectural features that mark Lahore’s centuries-old cultural landscape. A majority of these buildings and the mohallas (local neighborhoods) in which they are situated form a unique heritage footprint. The congregational Mosque of Wazir Khan was built in 1634-35 CE (AH 1044-45), by Hakim ‘Ilm ud Din Ansari, famously known as Wazir Khan, the governor of Punjab during the reign of Emperor Shah Jahan. Constructed over a period of seven years,Wazir Khan Mosque stands apart in the sheer scale of its decorative features, which display the sublime artistic skill of the period and the diversity of its cultural influences. The complex includes the Mosque itself, the introductory space of the Chowk Wazir Khan, and a double row of shops integrated in the entrance system meant specifically for calligraphers and bookbinders. It also includes additional shops on the eastern and northern façade built into the body of the monument, a caravanserai, a public bathhouse (the Shahi Hammam), open land and two wells all bequeathed to the Mosque by Wazir Khan for its upkeep and maintenance. In 2009, Aga Khan Cultural Service-Pakistan (AKCS-P) carried out a comprehensive documentation, condition and risk assessment of the mosque, followed by a technical report published in 2012. Work on the rehabilitation of the urban square by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) began in October 2015. The Aga Khan Cultural Service Pakistan in partnership with Walled City of Lahore Authority, began the conservation of the Wazir Khan Mosque`s North façade in September 2015. The project took place in three phases. The first phase focused on the acquisition and removal of encroachments, execution of rainwater drainage system, construction of RCC retaining wall and structural consolidation of building fabric. This phase was completed in June 2016. The second phase of the project, which commenced in July 2016 was completed in August 2017, included the conservation of cut &amp; dressed brick masonry, arches, brick tile flooring and woodwork. Both phase 1 and 2 were funded by the Royal Norwegian Embassy, Aga Khan Trust for Culture and Government of Punjab. The third phase of the project included conservation of all decorative surfaces, glazed tile mosaic, fresco, stucco, glazed lime plaster and brick masonry. This third phase was funded by the Government of Punjab and was completed in December 2021.

1959-62 Survey Known as Bijai Mandir. Located in the northern outskirts of Begampur village. Grid ref. G-12This group of buildings on a mound is reminiscent of a small fort and is mostly in ruins today. The main part in the south is an open area approximately 15 m high, and to its north, part of a large south-facing building with numerous rooms remains. On the west side of this building's rooftop, there is a watchtower-like structure with an octagonal plan whose outer walls are sharply slanted; the use of cut stone for the eight sides is striking. Inside, there is a room with a cross-shaped plan and entrances on four sides. In the four corners of the flat roof, there are red sandstone holes approximately 45 cm in diameter, but the purpose of these holes is not clear. The exterior of the building is decorative, with an arched opening window behind the second mihrab from the center to the north and south, and a bay window with two cut stone columns on the corbels behind the third mihrab. There are similar bay windows at the west end of the north and south faces. No ceiling decorations are found on the entire building. [Interior] A cloister vault is placed on each bay. [Gate] A square wall-type dome building with openings on all four sides. The exterior is a dome made by raising an octagonal drum, and no ceiling decoration remains. The front faces south, and an opening arch is set within a protruding and raised frame in the center, with beams supporting a lintel-style entrance at the bottom.
