This IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) interdisciplinary unit enables MYP3 students to focus on United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11, “to make human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.” It demonstrated through case studies from the Aga Khan Award for Architecture and the Aga Khan Historic Cities Programme how culture impacts spaces and spaces impact culture. The unit is centred on developing interdisciplinary learning outcomes and subject-specific learning objectives in design, individuals and societies and language acquisition and/or language and literature courses in the host country language(s).
