An ambitious master plan drawn in 1972 includes a mosque, a school for Arab language, a secondary school, and student and staff housing in addition to the lycée and university. The complex dominates the eastern entry to the city and lies on the principal artery to the city centre. Beyond the central section there are two large halls: a prayer hall for 1,000 worshippers, and a 1,000 seat auditorium. The symmetrical extensions house classrooms and laboratories on three floors. Dormitories are located on both extremities of the building and complete the lateral composition. All services are located in a basement level, as are the kitchen, a foyer, washrooms, and the laundry. The structure is a concrete portal frame supporting reinforced concrete slabs, vaults, and domes. The minarets are in reinforced concrete as well. Localy manufactured burned brick is used for infill.
