The airport opened in 1961. &nbsp;The current main terminal was designed by the firm Dar Al Handasah to resemble the mud brick architecture of Mali. &nbsp;The runway is&nbsp;2,110m (6,922ft) in length, but it not lit for night activity.&nbsp;
